Using the Test Email function is a simple but powerful way to ensure your event communications are flawless before they go out to attendees. By sending yourself a preview, you can carefully review every detail, from formatting and links to dates, locations, and ticket information, exactly as your audience will see it. Taking a moment to test your emails allows you to catch small mistakes, confirm everything displays correctly, and launch your communications with confidence.
You can find the SEND TEST EMAIL button in the bottom left hand corner of every email modal within the platform. If you click that button, you will receive the email as it's currently displayed, but with the merge fields filled in.
Guest / Contact Merge Fields
When you send a test email, you are not sending it to any specific individual, so the system cannot insert the actual information into Guest / Contact merge fields. Therefore, the system instead inserts example contact information into these fields to display that they are functioning correctly.
For example, when I click SEND TEST EMAIL in the confirmation email above, I receive the following email in my inbox (see below).
Here's a full list that showcases how different guest / contact-related merge fields will appear in your test emails:

Event and Other Information Merge Fields
You may have inserted event-related merge fields into your email, such as 'Venue Name' or 'Online Meeting Details'. If you've inserted one of these merge fields into your email but you have not added that information into the event itself, your test email will flag this, so that you know to add it before you send the email.
If any such event data is missing, the following text will appear in the test email instead of the merge field:
[macro name] = event is missing data for this field
For example, I am creating a confirmation email for my board meeting. I have not yet added a venue to my event, but I have included the Event Venue and Event Venue Address merge fields in the email. If I click SEND TEST EMAIL on the email below...
I will therefore receive the following in my inbox.
